Bonus Ball Update – the sequel!

OK you lot here’s the latest update on the Bonus Ball and I’m delighted to say that the past 2 weeks have seen proper winners – yippee (now if only I can get Euromillions to come up on Tuesday I’d be one happy bunny!!  Anyway back to the real world!

Week 4’s lucky winner was Carole Stainton and the Jackal informs me that Carole’s involvement is down to our treasurer so all Tef needs to do is pay me the £60 this year minus a £5 (as Carole hasn’t paid either) and give Carole the £5! Sweet!

Also good to see that Dave Clarke has won  – even better news for Joe as it’s Donna’s Dad and that means rather than collect Dave’s money all Joe has to do is collect the other monies owed (on his list of things to do if he’s recovered from his birthday yesterday – happy birthday mate!) and then pay Dave a £5!

Week WINNERS Date Number
1 Free 14-Feb 22
2 Free 21-Feb 36
3 Issy Honour 28-Feb 43
4 Carole Stainton 07-Mar 31
5 Dave Clarke 14-Mar 45

Given tonight’s Lotto Jackpot is only £4million you might as well grab one of the free numbers – you stand more chance of winning!  22, 32, 36, 46 are free

A couple of messages for the troops:

  • Timmo I’ve the dosh for you, your mum and dad but it seems you wife to be is a player (I mean that in the sense of being part of this bonus ball) I’m not making any other aspertions!!  She’s got Ball number 10!

Bonus Ball update!

Evening sports fans!  Another 2 weeks have passed and we can announce the latest winners:

Saturday 21 st February – the bonus ball was #36.

  • Thankfully due to Carlos’ HR strategy that was a free number so the club thanks him very much indeed!!

Saturday 28th February – the bonus ball was #43.

  • And we finally have a winner!  #43 ‘s proud owner is Issy Honour (I bet her Dad paid really!).  So £25 is due to that nice man Will – however he hasn’t yet paid for his other numbers so we’ll keep that safe for him!

Subject to sorting a few things out with Herr Needham we will be in a position to publish the numbers and their owners in the next couple of days – but there are free numbers available RIGHT NOW!

If you want in – and remember you’ve gotta be in it to win it!  Numbers 22, 36 and 46 are FREE.

OK so who hasn’t committed yet – Stevie T are you listening?  When our esteemed secretary Mr Matthew Mead gets round to sending out the club members contacts I’ll be in a position to finalise the list of who’s in and who’s going to get even more begging letters, emails, texts, tweets and facebook posts – you have been warned!!

Unpack your trousers from your old Kit bag….

It is definitely the time to sort your kit out for the coming season….We all know how long it takes to get kit from Eddie at Trysports so ACT NOW!     Do not wait until April when half the clubs in the County will be placing orders or you will miss the start of the season….

There will not be any exceptions this year and ALL registered players must wear MGCC Branded kit (Shirt, Cap, jumper), or pure white (shirt, jumper) kit in all league and cup matches.   (That means no St. Edwards, Middleton Stoney, Magdalen College, or England shirts – you know who!!)

And if you needed any further motivation, be warned that we have a manky old (XXL) shirt that will not be washed all season and so anyone who does not have the right shirt on match day will wear this one!

Your Club Number is set out below so you have time to get that on your kit too if you want (not compulsory), at only £2.50 a time it’s a bargain and less painful than a tattoo!!

Timmo – 87, Stu – 37, Matt – 67, Joe – 84,  Tom – 92,  Willo – 111,  Granty – 12,  Crouch – 72,  Stevie – 66,  Jules – 1,  Guesty – 29,  Sat – 74,  Charlie – 106,  Sam – 109,  Luke – 110,  Cameron – 115, Tacky – 41,  Westy – 82, and Silver Fox – 40.

Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!

Valentine’s Day Bonus Ball winner is….

Well after all the waiting, the Dryathlon in January the Bonus Ball is back!! And the first winner of this round is……

Number 22

Which is an unpaid Bonus Ball number so the committee says thank you very much everybody and better luck next time!

So in summary the view from number 22 is:

sad

and the view of the committee is:

happy

OK people same time next week!

Stevie T – you’ve gotta be in it to win it!  That could’ve been you!  Money please young man!!

Bonus Ball is back soon!!!

keep-calm-and-bonus-ball-1OK people the January Dryathlon is over and you’ve all received you first post-Christmas pay packet so it’s time for the Bonus Ball to return!

The first draw of 2015 will be on Valentine’s Day – how romantic is that!?!

Remember what it’s all about!  It’s about helping to fund the club and keeping down the cost of playing.  So we really hope that all of you who were part of the last Bonus Ball will be taking part again.  If not, you know the deal – each player is responsible for “selling” 3 bonus balls…….!

I’ll put the last list online in the next day or so and hopefully Big Dave will have recovered enough from his post Dryathlon festivities that he’ll give me your txt numbers so watch out for further “messages of encouragement” shortly.

To avoid such “joys” is simple – just email/text/phone your confirmation/drop money in brown envelopes through the door to Westy and all will be well!  Oh and don’t worry I’ll be posting this on Facebook as well – so there’s no excuses!!!

SUNDAY FIXTURES 2015

MGCC is restarting our Sunday Team in 2015 under the leadership of our seasoned professional “Crabby Cross.”

The objective of the Sunday Team is to increase the opportunity for club members to play and enjoy full match cricket outside the pressures of League and Cup.  In particular, for the younger members to get the chance to shine and take on the majority of the responsibility.

We plan to have 6-8 games across the Summer against carefully selected opposition who we know will play the game in the interests of a quality match for both teams.  It is essential that Grant is supported by the players with availability and help on the day.  In order for you to add the dates to your diary – or more importantly – your parents’ and partners’ diary, we shall add the fixtures to this message as the winter passes.  So keep an eye on the website!

The season will start with a Saturday/Sunday team Pre-season Friendly against Westcott.  This game is intended for Saturday players to get warmed up for the league  season, complimented with those who want to turn out without the pressure of league points at stake!   The first Sunday Team game is a top fixture at Buckingham Town on Sunday 17th May (the day after Club Day when we have no Saturday league match).

FIXTURES

26th April  Home versus Westcott CC  (2pm)

17th May   Away  versus  Buckingham Town CC

31st May   Home versus  Stoke Hammond CC  (2pm)

14th June  Away  ‘6-A-Side’ Tournament at Westcott Ground (12pm)

28th June Away  versus  Stoke Hammond CC  (2pm)

5th July  Home  versus  Westcott CC

19th July   Away  versus  Finmere CC

23rd Aug  Away versus Westcott CC
Watch this space as more matches are added!!

Grant’s Poem from Presentation Evening

I thought those that enjoyed the excellent end of season presentation evening would like to see the poem composed by Granty in homage to the Club, The Telegraph Cup and The New Pig (not sure which is the most important?!).  So here it is, put on your best Pam Ayres voice and recite out loud!

While the chairman was away sunning himself

And combing his silver hair

The boys fought in the battle of Chipping Norton

And returned with this silver ware.

The team were nervous

The atmosphere tense

The Marsh barmy army

Were all round the fence.

A mixture of young

And a few old

We were strong

Brave and bold.

Some were athletic

Some were a bit round

But Stuart’s judgement that day

Seemed to be sound.

OK so we didn’t do brilliant

With the bat

But we had confidence in our bowling

We always know that.

I believe it was our team spirit

That won the cup that day

We all took responsibility

And that is the Marsh way.

What a season

we have had

to be a part of it

I am so glad.

It’s not just the players

That makes ours a Great Club

It’s umpires, groundsmen, tea ladies,

Supporters you talk to in the pub.

Our teas are legend

Around these parts

Ladies you certainly know

The way to our hearts.

At the end of each match

We all sit and have a drink

Shoving coins into

Something round, porcelain and pink.

Unfortunately our pig got into the wrong hands

And whoops there was a smash

We had to then think about

Where to put the fines cash.

Now we have something

much more sleek

It came all the way from America

and only took a weeeeeeek.

You must have guessed what I have got

So before you dance and jig

Cast your eyes upon

Our clubs brand new PIG!

FINAL FANTASY RESULT

There were no surprises on the last day and this years winner was SKIPPER with 4,080.  Congratulations Skip, this means only one thing – your points will be severely cut next year!!    (And being as I didn’t win there won’t be a trophy either)

Closest contender was the International Signing with 2,838.  With that kind of an effort an early night must be needed!

The 2nd half of the season saw Crouch fly up the league and he finished on 2,600.  Well done MoM!

There was a tight battle behind the medal positions, with Anthea just holding out on 2,188, from Frankie on 2,112, then Gregory on 2,030.  That was a tight one Matron!

Guns followed on 1,875 with Sat Nav on 1,805

The severely and unfairly hampered Silver Fox came in on 1,559 (adjustments shall be made!) with Pidge then on 1,420.

Bit of a gap to Spud who tripped the 4 figures in the last game to take him to 1,000 exactly.  Just ahead of Mr Professional, Farmer on 952.

Crabby – 780 – nudged ahead of Mr Invisible – 776 and then came the remaining youth policy of:  Rooney 560, Dinesh 340 and Luke with his excellent catch for 100!

All others failed to score.

And with that we close the 2014 Fantasy….it was indeed a year of Fantasy, only to be bettered next year.  The Handicapping Committee shall meet over the close season to decide upon points values for next year…and remember you can always bribe them at the Presentation Dance – a pint goes a long way!

Yours,

The Fantasy League Committee
